Stapelia glanduliflora bildet mit ihren vierkantigen Trieben kompakte Gruppen von bis zu 20 cm Höhe und bis zu 40 cm Durchmesser. Die Stämmchen sind meist mit winzigen weichen Härchen bedeckt und fühlen sich „samtig“ an. Die Kanten der Stängel sind mit aufrechten kleinen Zähnchen – rudimentären Blättern – besetzt.
Blüten:
Diese hübsche Stapelie fällt durch ihre 2,5-3,5 cm breiten, grünlich- bis schwefelgelben Blüten auf, die oberseits mit weißen, keulenförmigen Drüsenhaaren besetzt sind. Von diesem Merkmal rührt auch der deutsche Name „Drüsenblütige Stapelie“ her. Im Zentrum des Blütenkelchs ist die orange-schwarze, sternförmige Corona sichtbar.
An 5-6 cm langen, dunkelroten Blütenstielen hängen die Blütensterne herab und breiten sich flach am Boden aus.
Wissenswertes:
S. glanduliflora ist an trockenen, steinigen Hängen zwischen Büschen zu finden. Zwar kommt diese schöne Art in Gebieten vor, die sich nur begrenzt für die Landwirtschaft eignen, doch sind Teilpopulationen durch den Anbau von Weinreben und Gemüse in ihrem Lebensraum gefährdet.
Stapelia glanduliflora ist mit Stapelia erectiflora verwandt.
Verbreitung:
Stapelia glanduliflora ist von vier Fundorten, von Klawer bis etwa 20 km nördlich von Citrusdal, Western Cape, Südafrika bekannt.
