Was wir machen
Die International Stapeliad Group ist eine Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Deutschen Kakteen-Gesellschaft. Sie soll ein Treffpunkt für alle Freunde der Asclepiadoideae im In- und Ausland werden. Ziel der Gruppe ist der Kontakt und Erfahrungsaustausch unter den Mitgliedern, sowohl was die Kultur betrifft als auch das Erleben der Pflanzen im Habitat. Dieser Austausch soll online und auch einmal jährlich bei einem persönlichen Treffen stattfinden.
Zweimal im Jahr erscheint das Stapeliad Journal, eine Onlinezeitschrift, welche nur den Mitgliedern zum Download angeboten wird.
Unsere Homepage soll Hilfestellung geben, auf Literatur hinweisen und im Lexikonteil die Schönheit der Ascleps vermitteln.
Die International Stapeliad Group möchte eine Anlaufstelle für alle Freunde der Ascleps sein, um gemeinsam die Begeisterung für diese Pflanzen erleben zu können.
The International Stapeliad Group is a working group of the German Cactus Society. It shall become a meeting point for all friends of the Asclepiadoideae in Germany and abroad. The aim of the group is the contact and exchange of experiences among the members, both concerning the culture and the discovering of plants in habitat. This exchange shall take place online and also once a year at a personal meeting.
Twice a year the Stapeliad Journal will be published, an online magazine, which is only offered for download to the members.
Our homepage shall provide assistance, refer to literature and convey the beauty of ascleps in the encyclopedia section.
The International Stapeliad Group wants to be a contact point for all ascleps friends to experience the enthusiasm for these plants together.
Wer wir sind
1. Vorsitzender, Cay Kruse
Seit vielen Jahren werden bei uns zu Hause Kakteen und andere Sukkulenten gesammelt. Ein großes Interesse gilt meinerseits hierbei der Aufzucht aus Samen und der Fotografie der Blüten. Neben Pflege der Sukkulenten gab es auch bereits einige Reisen in die Herkunftsländer dieser interessanten Pflanzen.
Seit Jahren engagiere ich mich auch in der DKG und nutze hier stets gern den Austausch mit anderen Sukkulenten-Liebhabern.
For many years cacti and other succulents are collected at home. A great interest on my part is the cultivation from seed and photography of the flowers. Besides the care of succulents there have already been some trips to the countries of origin of these interesting plants. For years I have been actively involved in the German Cactus Society and always enjoy the exchange with other succulent lovers.
2. Vorsitzende, Sabine Phillipp
Eine kleine Orbea variegata, die in meiner Kindheit am Küchenfenster stand und dort abwechselnd blühte und um ihr Leben kämpfte, war schuld daran, dass sich diese Pflanzen zu meinem Sammlungsschwerpunkt entwickeln sollten. Nachdem ich mir eine kunterbunte Sukkulentensammlung angelegt hatte, wuchs die Anzahl der Ascleps darin immer mehr, je mehr ich in das Thema Seidenpflanzengewächse eintauchte.
Meine Pflanzen und das Engagement für die DKG nehmen meine Freizeit vollkommen in Anspruch, was ich aber sehr genieße. Von Anfang an, wünschte ich mir eine aktive Gemeinschaft, die sich zum Thema Ascleps austauschen könnte. Dass dies nun mit der International Stapeliad Group wahr geworden ist, freut mich sehr.
Beruflich bin ich im Verlag unserer regionalen Tageszeitung tätig und nebenberuflich mache ich die Kinder unseres örtlichen Waldkindergartens mit der heimischen Tier- und Pflanzenwelt vertraut, was mir sehr viel Freude bereitet.
A small Orbea variegata that stood at the kitchen window in my childhood, alternately blooming and fighting for its life, was to blame for the fact that these plants were to become the focus of my collection. Having started a collection with a potpourri of succulents, the number of ascleps in it grew and grew as I became more immersed in the subject of silk plant growth.
My plants and the engagement for the German Cactus Society take up my spare time completely, which I enjoy very much. From the beginning, I wished for an active community, which could exchange information about ascleps. I am very pleased that this has now come true with the International Stapeliad Group.
Professionally, I work in the publishing house of our regional daily newspaper and another part-time activity is to familiarize the children of our local forest kindergarten with the local flora and fauna, which gives me a lot of pleasure.

Ich sammle seit 45 Jahren Kakteen – Schwerpunkt südamerikanische Kakteen und seit 1989 auch noch Ascleps – Schwerpunkt nicht sukkulente Ascleps.
Ich habe schon in den 90er Jahren begonnen mich mit dem Blütenaufbau und der Befruchtung der Ascleps zu beschäftigen. Seit Ende der 90er mache ich jedes Jahr manuelle Befruchtungen, meist unter dem Mikroskop. Ich bin schon 1999 kurz nach der Gründung der IG-Ascleps dazu gestoßen und seit 2012 1. Vorsitzender der IG-Ascleps. Heute kultiviere ich in zwei Gewächshäusern und einem Wintergarten ca. 4000 Kakteen und ca. 250 Ascleps.

I have been collecting cacti for 45 years with focus on South American cacti and since 1989 also ascleps with emphasis on non-succulent ascleps.
I started to study the flower structure and fertilization of ascleps as early as the 90s. I have been doing manual fertilizations every year since the end of the 90s, mostly using a microscope. I joined the IG Ascleps in 1999 shortly after its foundation and since 2012 I have been the first chairman. Today I cultivate about 4,000 cacti and about 250 ascleps in two greenhouses and a winter garden.

Seit über 40 Jahren sammle ich Kakteen, andere Sukkulenten und auch viele andere Pflanzen. Angefangen hatte es mit der Übernahme der Pflege der kleinen Kakteensammlung meines Vaters in den 1970er Jahren, die ich dann nach und nach erweiterte und mir auch begleitende Literatur beschaffte. Dort fand ich schließlich einen Hinweis auf die Deutsche Kakteen-Gesellschaft e. V. (DKG), der ich 1986 beitrat. Später folgten Mitgliedschaften in diversen Pflanzenliebhabergesellschaften im In- und Ausland. Auch bei der Gründung der IG Ascleps im Oktober 1999, am Rande der Jahreshauptversammlung der Fachgesellschaft andere Sukkulenten (FGaS), war ich mit dabei und freue mich nun auf einen Neustart.
For over 40 years I have been collecting cacti, other succulents and many other plants. It all started with taking care of my father’s small cactus collection in the 1970s, which I gradually expanded and also procured accompanying literature. There I finally found a reference to the Deutsche Kakteen-Gesellschaft e. V. (DKG), which I joined in 1986. This was later followed by memberships in various plant lover societies in Germany and abroad. I was also present when the IG Ascleps was founded in October 1999 on the occasion of the annual meeting of the Fachgesellschaft andere Sukkulenten (FGaS) and I am now looking forward to a new start.

Mit dem Eintritt in die Deutsche Kakteen-Gesellschaft 1973 begann ich mit einem Hobby, das bis heute einen großen Teil meines Lebens ausfüllt. Ich habe seitdem nie aufgehört, mich mit Kakteen und anderen Sukkulenten intensiv zu befassen. Da ich fast alle dieser Pflanzen faszinierend finde, habe ich keine ausgeprägte Spezialsammlung. Ich habe jedoch fast alle Länder bereist, wo diese Pflanzen endemisch vorkommen. 1975 war ich Mitbegründerin der Heidelberger Ortsgruppe und hatte dort bis zur Auflösung verschiedene Verantwortungen inne. Der DKG stand ich als Schriftführerin/Vizepräsidentin sechs Jahre zur Verfügung und der IG Ascleps seit September 2011 für die redaktionelle Beratung.
When I joined the German Cactus Society in 1973, I began a hobby that still fills a large part of my life. Since then I have never stopped to deal intensively with cacti and other succulents. Since I find almost all of these plants fascinating, I do not have a distinct special collection. However, I have traveled to almost all countries where these plants are endemic. In 1975 I was co-founder of the Heidelberg local group and held various responsibilities there until its dissolution. I was available to the DKG as secretary/vice president for six years and to the IG Ascleps for editorial advice since September 2011.

Vielleicht kennen mich einige von Ihnen durch meine Arbeit für die AG Echinopsis-Hybriden und die Deutsche Kakteen-Gesellschaft. Pflanzen begleiten mein Leben von Kindesbeinen an. Ein Buch über Wiesenblumen begründete eine Faszination, die bis heute anhält. Inzwischen gilt mein größtes Interesse Pflanzen, die sich besonders schwierige Lebensräume erobert haben und dazu zählen natürlich ganz besonders Kakteen und Ascleps. Es nötigt mir großen Respekt ab, wie diese Geschöpfe in ihrer Welt zurechtkommen und wie sich ihre Körper und Blüten ganz auf ihre Lebensweise eingestellt haben.
Als ich dank eines 3D-Vortrags von Hans Frohning eine Ascleps-Blüte wie mit den Augen eines Insekts erleben durfte, hat mein Interesse für Stapelia & Co. nochmals einen richtigen Schub bekommen und ich freue mich sehr, in unserer wiedererstarkten Arbeitsgruppe mitwirken zu können.
Maybe some of you already know me because of my activities in the working group AG Echinopsis-Hybrids and the German Cactus Society.
Plants have accompanied my life since childhood. A book about meadow flowers started a fascination that lasts until today. Now I am most interested in plants that have conquered particularly difficult habitats, especially cacti and ascleps. I am full of respect how these creatures cope in their world and how their bodies and flowers have completely adapted to their way of life.
Thanks to a 3D-lecture by Hans Frohning, I was able to experience an ascleps flower as if through the eyes of an insect, my interest in Stapelia & Co. got a real boost and I am happy to participate in our reinvigorated working group.
